Meet Dr Joanne Sun
I was drawn to dentistry as this profession allows me to build meaningful connections with my patients and be a part of their dental journey from beginning to end.
Dr Joanne Sun enjoys spending time listening to her patients, finding out their concerns, and being able to work together with them to improve their dental hygiene.
Education and Professional Development
Born and raised in Sydney, Dr Sun graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science with First Class Honours. Throughout her time at Uni, she received multiple awards, such as the Deans Commendation of Academic Excellence each semester. She also was awarded the Australian Society of Orthodontists (Qld Branch) Mary Moffatt Memorial Prize 2023.
Dr Sun is highly interested in professional development to expand her skills. Although she enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, she would love to further her cosmetic, restorative, and orthodontic dentistry education through continual CPD.

A Passion for Making a Difference
For Dr Sun, the most fulfilling aspect of being a dentist is making a direct difference in someone’s smile, which can ultimately affect their confidence, smile, and even their wellbeing. She also loves being able to change a patient’s perception of the dentist, particularly those who come in anxious and worried and, after treatment, actually enjoy being at the dentist. “I have a gentle and caring nature and always explain each step of the procedure so the patient feels at ease.”
In Her Spare Time
Outside of work, Dr Sun enjoys arts and crafts, such as crocheting; she also likes cooking, baking, and exploring the outdoors by going for runs and bushwalks. She is a big foodie and enjoys exploring new restaurants with family and friends. Dr Sun truly loves the laid-back lifestyle and beautiful surroundings both Toowoomba and Highfields have to offer.
